For the Kruisvaart site in Utrecht, skaters expressed the desire to revitalize a vacant lot as a skate spot. The question was to use limited resources to realize a robust, raw skate spot that fits the industrial character of the site. Important were reuse, accessibility and preserving the historical significance of The Yard as an iconic skate spot.
Our solution
The Yard has been transformed into a characterful skate spot with a strong DIY appeal. Through the efforts of volunteers, a successful crowdfunding and cooperation with landowner NS Stations, the site was given a new function. With simple, robust skate elements and maintaining its industrial character, De Yard once again became a lively meeting place for skaters, with respect for the history of this unique location.
